Cadet Academic Qualifications

All members of the RAF Air Cadets are able to obtain a number of academic qualifications, often requiring little additional work other than being an active member of the Air Cadets.

These qualifications range from BTEC certificates and diplomas to City and Guilds and Institute of Leadership and Management Qualifications.

Cadet Academic Qualifications

BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Teamwork and Personal Skills

For those cadets aged between 13-15 and who have completed the First Class syllabus are eligible for this award. Younger cadets can also claim this award, but it will not be issued until they turn 13.

BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Aviation Studies for Air Cadets

Any cadets who completes the First Class syllabus is also eligible for this award.

BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Aviation Studies for Air Cadets

Any cadets who completes the First Class and Leading syllabus is eligible for this award.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Aviation Studies for Air Cadets

Any cadets who completes the Air CAdet syllabus up to Master Cadet syllabus is eligible for this award.

RAF Air Cadets will normally fund one of the Aviation Studies awards.

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Teamwork and Personal Development

Cadets aged 16+ are able to undertake this award. This entails cadets completing a work book of exercises and showing evidence of there cadet activities.

Many different cadet activities count towards the award, meaning that cadets have to do very little to be eligible. The more they have done, the more counts towards the award and the higher the overall outcome.

Cadets have 1 or 2 years to complete the award, depending if they elect to do a second award in the second year.

The cost of the award is currently covered by the Cadet Vocational Qualifications Office, so there is no charge for cadets

BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Music for Practical Performance

Cadets aged 16+ are able to undertake this award. This award is aimed at recognising cadets who are involved with musical activities within the Air Cadets.

Members of Squadron, WIng, Region or Corps. bands often find the majority of the requirements of the award are met by their normal musical activities.

Cadets have 1 or 2 years to complete the award, depending if they elect to do a second award in the second year.

The cost of the award is currently covered by the Cadet Vocational Qualifications Office, so there is no charge for cadets

ILM Level 2

Cadets who pass the Qualified Aerospace Instructors Course are eligible for an ILM Level 2 award.

ILM Level 3

Cadets who pass the Junior Leaders Course are eligible for an ILM Level 3 award.

Adult Academic Qualifications

ILM Level 2

Staff who complete the Duke of Edinburgh Leaders Course are eligible for an ILM Level 2 award.

ILM Level 4

Uniformed Staff who complete the Squadron Commanders Course are eligible for an ILM Level 4 award.

Level 4-7 NQF Qualification in Leadership and Management

Staff may be eligible for various NQF Qualification in Leadership and Management, from a Licentiateship (Usually open to any staff member), an Affiliateship (Open to senior instructors), a Graduateship (Open to Squadron Commanders) up to a Membership (Open to Senior Staff or professional post holders).
