Flight Lieutenant Kellyann Martin, Commanding Officer of 2490 (Spen Valley) Squadron took up the Duke of Edinburgh Award's Diamond challenge recently. Her challenge took her to Peru, where she saw the mighty Inca settlement of Machu Picchu.
Flt Lt Martin said "I already hold the D of E Bronze, Silver and Gold awards, so when it was announced that there was a Diamond challenge available for adults to celebrate 60 years of the Award, I knew I had to have that certificate as well! So I set an example to the cadets by undertaking the award, which included months planning and preparing for the trip and fundraising for the D of E charity. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience, and it is definitely another of the world's sights ticked off my bucket list."
The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a superb way for people to progress themselves, not just cadets, but there are also many training opportunities for adults. Here's to the next 60 years of the Award!
