The youngsters, aged 12 - 19, competed across five age categories, with their Under 15 Boys, Under 17 Men and Junior Men teams all winning gold. The Under 15 Girls and Junior Women finished 6th and 16th respectively. Overall, Team LB won gold after a gruelling performance in a cold, wet and muddy Rising Sun Country Park, Benton.
Cadet Corporal Jack Workman, 18, said: “It was a tough race with some of the tracks a bit awkward to run on but we all did our best and we’re delighted to have won.”
“We always have fun during our sports sessions,” added Cadet Jessica Dawson, 14. “We do lots of different sports and fitness games to help us improve our communication, resilience and teamwork as well as become healthier. To have beaten another 34 squadrons to win the cross country is great.”
Squadron boss, Flight Lieutenant Gary Richardson said; "Our Sports Development Programme is fully integrated into our Training and Development Plan and a big part of what we do.”
“Our young people enjoy being active and to win is a huge achievement. The competition is a team event and to have won is a true testament as to what teamwork and effort can achieve. I’m tremendously proud of the young people.”
